The Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) has released the latest Discipline-based Rating System or D-SETARA which assesses the quality of teaching and learning of a certain field of study.
And below are the rankings for the top health science universities in Malaysia based on the results obtained by MQA.
1. International Medical University
The International Medical University (IMU) is a private, English language, health sciences university in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Malaysia’s leading private medical and healthcare university. It was established in 1992, and is active in research and teaching within medicine and healthcare with a strong international orientation.

3. International Islamic University Malaysia
The International Islamic University Malaysia, also known as IIUM or UIAM, is a Public Institution of Higher Education (PIHE) in Malaysia. Its main campus is located in Gombak, Selangor with its Centre for Foundation Studies situated in Petaling Jaya and Gambang, Pahang and its medical-centric branch in Kuantan, Pahang.
4. University of Malaya
The university was founded in 1949 as a public-funded tertiary institution. Today, it has more than 2,500 faculty members. In 2012, UM was granted autonomy status by the Ministry of Higher Education. 5. University Sains Malaysia (USM)
University of Science, Malaysia (Universiti Sains Malaysia; acronym: USM) is a public university in Malaysia. There are three campuses: one on the island of Penang (Main Campus), one in Kelantan (Health Campus), and one in Nibong Tebal (Engineering Campus).
6. Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR)
Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Tunku Abdul Rahman University) is a not-for-profit private university in Malaysia. The university is also known by the acronym UTAR, which is part of the university’s emblem. It was established under a foundation called UTAR Education Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation.
7. University Teknologi Malaysia (UTM)
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (also known as UTM) is a public research University in Malaysia and a research-intensive university in engineering, science and technology . It is located in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia and in Johor Bahru, the southern city in Iskandar Malaysia.
UTM is a graduate-focused university with 56% of its student population consisting of postgraduate students, the highest in Malaysia.
8. Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM)
Universiti Putra Malaysia (formally known as Universiti Pertanian Malaysia or College of Agriculture Malaya or School of Agriculture), or UPM, is recognised by the independent government assessments as one of Malaysia’s leading research Universities. Founded in 1931 as the School of Agriculture, UPM’s main campus is located in central Peninsular Malaysia, close to the capital city,Kuala Lumpur and next to Malaysia’s administrative capital city, Putrajaya.
9. Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) / National University of Malaysia
The National University of Malaysia is a public university located in Bangi, Selangor which is about 35 km south of Kuala Lumpur. Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia is one of five research universities in the country. It was ranked number 259th in the world by QS World University Rankings in 2014. It is ranked 98th place in the 100 best new universities established within the last 50 years in the world. It is the only university from Malaysia that made it in the 2012 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Top 50 Universities Under 50 Years Old list ranked in the 31st place.
