MANILA – 22 people were killed when a commuter bus plunged from an elevated highway onto a van here in Philippine’s capital Manila on Monday
Local police from Manila said that the death toll could rise. 20 people who died in the accident were on board the bus while the other two fatalities were from the van, traffic investigator Jose Abuyog said.
“The death toll could go even higher,” as some of the injured are in serious condition, he told AFP
He also said that the cause of the accident are still being determined.
Another 20 people were injured when the bus fell six metres from the highway onto the road.
The bus driver survived the accident and he will undergo test and questioning by the land transportation regulatory board chairman Winston Ginez.
The bus company who is involved in the accident, Don Mariano Transit has been suspended for the next 30 days for further inspection of the other vehicles that the company has.
