24-hour mamak stalls and hawker centres may be no more in Malaysia

A proposal was recently submitted to the Government to clamp down on these late night eateries.
According to the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, the proposal is to basically restrict operating hours to midnight followed complaints that such outlets were the actual reason for the rise in social ills in Malaysia. He also added that NOT ALL mamak stalls and hawker centres will be affected,  only those in specific areas such as in housing and rural areas will be banned (franchise outlets such as McDonald’s and KFC were not included in the ban).
