The number of tourist heading to Terengganu is certainly increasing year by year. But will it still increase after the state government introduce a new dress code to abide?
According to the state government’s official news portal known as Teganukita, a circular with guidelines on attire will soon be released to all Malaysian travel agents and as well as Malaysian tourism headquarters in neighboring countries including Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore.
These new guidelines are created to target mainly the female tourists (stated in the website). According to the State Tourism and Cultural Affairs chairman, Datuk Mohd Jidin Shafee, before legal action is imposed on women who wear revealing attire in public, to the point that the dressing causes fervency (kegairahan), a letter with guidelines will be issued first.
The good news is that the ruling does not require men and women to comply 100% with the Islamic dress code. However, if you failed to do so, you will be called for counselling. On the other hand, if the perpetrator is underage, parents will also be called in to attend counselling sessions.
