Singapore will for the first time buy brand new submarines for their country. The Mindef (The Defence Ministry) made a statement on Monday saying that the deal is linked with German defence contractor Tyssenkrupp Marine System on November 29 to buy two Type 218SG vessels.
These new vessels comes with two second-hand Archer-class submarines, will replace four ageing Challenger-class submarines.
The Defence Ministry said that the Challenger-class vessels were build in the 1960s and it will be retired from service. The new vessels is expected to be delivered from 2020.
