As we know, Facebook is not accessible in China and now popular photo sating app Instagram has apparently been blocked by the Chinese Government due to the pro-democracy protest in Hong Kong. Website monitoring services such as blockedinchine.net and greatfire.org reported that Chinese mainlanders do not have access to Instagram.
A block from Beijing does not mean that Hong Kon has been cut off from service. Bystanders are continuing to post photos from the protest onto Instagram from the city. China authorities doesn’t want the photos and videos from the demonstration to be accessible by the people in the country. Despite the ban and blocks of Instagram, protesters are still uploading photos from Hong Kong under the hastag of #OccupyCentral.
