This is a message to all smokers by the Health Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, you can no longer smoke at any highway R&R stops as they are now “No Smoking” zone.
That’s right — he recently confirmed this to the reporters after launching the national level International No Tobacco Day which was held in Ipoh on the 17th June 2014. On top of that, all the highway conccesionaires have agreed to this proposal as well.
Authorities who are in-charge will be monitoring the areas and for those smokers caught smoking in the area can be summoned/fined from RM250 – RM500. However, if you are really desperate to get a few “puffs”, then you can do it at the R&R parking lots only.
Subramaniam added that this decision made is to basically reach the Health Ministry’s target of lowering the number of smokers in Malaysia by at least 16%.
