You may want to be extra careful with your MyKad in future, as losing it could be literally a costly affair.
The replacement fee for a lost MyKad due to negligence will be increased from Oct 15, Bernama reported today.
Home Affairs deputy secretary-general (security policy) Datuk Seri Adenan Ab Rahman said the fee for losing the MyKad the first time was RM100, while the second time was increased from RM200 to RM300 and the third time onward would be increased from RM300 to RM1,000.
He said this would, however, not apply to persons with disabilities, the hardcore poor, those aged 60 and above and victims of disasters, theft and those below 18.
“The increment of the fee is part of the improvement of procedures taken after the National Registration Department (NRD) found that from 2010 to September 2015 there were 1,356,135 cases of lost MyKad.
