E-cigarette Explodes Killing Man in Bintulu


BINTULU: 53 year old van driver died from an explosion caused from his electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) device that suddenly blew up at Bintulu Tamu (Market) while the victim was walking with a friend to a coffee shop. The victim is only identified as ‘Lau’.

Authorities believed that the battery of the e-cigarette exploded and the force struck Lau in the chest causing him to collapse. Lau’s friend was shocked as he discovered a hole with burnt marks on Lau’s chest.

His friend said that Lau did not die instantly as his eyes were wide open when his name was called out, but later Lau was believed to passed out before his demise. Lau was pronounced dead when the paramedics arrived. The main cause of Lau’s death is still being investigated.
