The Deputy Home Minister, Nur Jazlan Mohamad told the Dewan Rakyat yesterday that the majority of drug addicts in Malaysia were Malays.
Based on the records by the National Anti-Drugs Agency, as reported by FMT, between 2013 and 2015, 80% out of the 127,606 drug addicts were Malays.
“The state with the highest number of drug addicts is Penang with 18,889 cases.
“According to race, the Malays recorded the highest number with 100,240 drug addicts (78.54%),” he told the House.
The total number of drug addicts, 88,597 were new addicts and 39,009 had returned to their old habit, said the Pulai MP.
Jazlan said Putrajaya had alloacted RM7.9 million from 2013 to 2015 for rehabilitation and treatment for drug addicts.
