College student killed in road accident near 1 Utama after celebrating a friend’s birthday

PETALING JAYA: A college student was killed under a flyover near the 1 Utama Shopping Centre. The car she was travelling in hit a traffic light before being rammed on its side by another car.

The victim was travelling with one of her friend and is now currently in a critical condition and is being treated at the Intensive Car Unit (ICU) of the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre.

Petaling Jaya traffic police chief Deputy Supt Mohamad Roy Suhaimi Sarif said the victim, 20-year-old Chua Yee Jing and a friend were leaving the shopping centre at about 4.30am when the driver lost control of his MyVi and crashed into a traffic light under the Lebuh Bandar Utama flyover.

“At the same time, a Volkswagen Scirocco travelling from Puchong towards Kepong was unable to avoid the car in time and crashed into them. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene,” said Mohamad Roy.

According toe Mohamad Roy, the Volkswagen driver sustained injuries to his chest and the case now is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987. Chua’s boyfriend said she was returning from celebrating a friend’s birthday. “She was a lovely and nice girl and she would always join Buddhist society activities and always tried to do good deeds,” he said.
