Chicken Cheaper by 70 sen But Lamb Will Cost RM1 More


PUTRAJAYA: This Deepavali, chicken is cheaper by 70 sen but local mutton and imported lamb will cost RM1 more.

Chicken is one of the 14 items that are subjected to price control in conjunction with the festivities. Live chicken is at RM5.70 per kilo, standard chicken is Rm7 and super chicken is priced at RM7.80. Whereas, the price of local mutton with bone has been set at RM36 a kilo while imported lamb will cost RM25.

The 10 day price control scheme would be effective by this Saturday, said Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Hasan Malek.

“These are the maximum prices which apply to 89 districts and areas in the peninsula, 32 districts in Sarawak, and 24 districts in Sabah and Labuan.

“The maximum prices were determined based on weekly price monitoring in all districts and areas, views of related government agencies and discussions with importers, exporters, suppliers and wholesalers of the listed items,” he said at a press conference here yesterday.

The controlled items will be displayed with pink price tags.
