‘The Accountant’ is a crime drama/thriller with a very unique hero at its centre. Christian Wolf (Ben Affleck) is a math savant and small town CPA, who prefers to spend more time with numbers than people, which works to his advantage as a freelance accountant for some of the world’s most dangerous criminal organisations.
For this movie Affleck learned the fighting style of silat (martial arts technique widely practised in Malaysia and Indonesia) and he find it interesting.
In an interview he said:
Silat is a martial arts technique that hasn’t been seen in too many movies before, so the fights in the movie felt really fresh and new, visually. And, unlike Batman, I couldn’t wear a mask, so I had to do more of the action myself than I did in that movie.
I spent a lot of time learning the choreography and rehearsing and practising these elaborate fights months and months ahead of filming. It could be very difficult and trying, but when it worked right, it looked really, really elegant and beautiful, even though it was part of war.
The movie directed by Gavin O’Connor will be released in Malaysia on the 20th October.
