1. 20th Century Fox Theme Park @ Genting Highlands
Opening in 2016, the first Fox park in the world — 20th Century Fox World theme park was part of a RM3bil Resort World Genting refurbishment programme, which includes the construction of an additional 1,300 hotel rooms adjoining the First World Hotel. The new theme park will have rides and attractions based on movies like Ice Age, Life of Pi, Alien,Predator and Night At The Museum.
2. Upin and Ipin Theme Park @ Sepang
Opening in 2015/2016, the theme park is conceptualised along the lines of Disneyland — to provide fun to the entire family.
3. Ubisoft Theme Park @ Kuala Lumpur
Ubisoft has announced their plans for a next-generation theme park. Slated to open in 2020 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the park will be a 10,000-square-meter indoor complex featuring rides, shows and other attractions, all built around Ubisoft’s games and characters. Few specifics have been revealed about upcoming attractions, but Ubisoft will produce all digital media for the rides, and help design guests’ journey into the park to ensure visitors’ experience is at its best.
4. Movie Animation Park Studios (MAPS) @ Ipoh
Movie Animation Park Studios (MAPS) is currently one of the most unique and exciting projects underway in Malaysia’s leisure and tourism landscape. Poised to be the First Animation Theme Park in Asia with a target completion by early 2016, MAPS will be offering 40 attractions in 6 themed zones such as DreamWorks Adventure Zone featuring Mr Peabody & Sherman,Megamind, The Croods and Casper The Friendly Ghost, including The Smurfs ‘Live’ Animation Attractions, Home of BoBoiBoy, Malaysia’s Tallest Drop Tower – Megamind Megadrop and South-East Asia’s First Car and Bike ‘Live’ Stunt Show – Stunt Legends.
5. Langkawi Eco Theme Park @ Langkawi
Opening in 2015/2016, the RM700mil park will be an “eco-expansion” of the Oriental Village, an outdoor lifestyle and shopping mall with a boutique hotel located at the foothills of Mount Machincang on the north-western part of the island. A key attraction in the theme park will be an immersive Omnidome 3D flight to be created in partnership with National Geographic and named Flight Over Langkawi. The omnidome is a 3D-theatre which will showcase the beauty of the island. It will be built in the first phase of the park which is scheduled for completion in 2015.
6. Splash Park @ Port Dickson
If the lure of beaches at Port Dickson doesn’t appeal much, there will soon be a wet theme park to cool yourself off. Set to be the largest water theme park in Negeri Sembilan, it is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year. The water theme park will comprise of a lazy river, sand pool, and a wide array of water play toys and facilities. The Splash Park adventure will centre around a large water play ship structure which could set it to be the biggest playship structure in Malaysia.
7. Jurassic Park @ Malacca
It looks like the dinosaurs from Jurassic Park are making their way to Malaysian shores! The dinosaur theme park at 1Malaysia Square in Klebang will also be the first Jurassic Park in Asia. The theme park is set to give a surreal experience and combined education, thrills and state-of-the-art technology as 200 artificial dinosaur models operated by electronic and hydraulic systems will be exhibited at the site.
8. Sea World @ Malacca
Much similar to the Sea World in Orlando, the largest whale aquarium is set to build in Malacca and is said to be even bigger than the Underwater World in Langkawi. It will also house an underwater aquarium where visitors can watch dolphins, sharks and other deep sea creatures up close. Other exhibits at the aquarium would display marine life and freshwater species from around the world.
The park is expected to be unveiled by the end of 2015.
9. Eco Marine Theme Park @ Malacca
Eco Marine Theme Park Water Fountain and Laser Show is expecting to launch in December 2015. The water theme park features a Music Water Fountain Laser Show which will be the first and the largest in Asia when completed.
10. Ocean Quest Marine Theme Park and Ocean Splash Water Park @ Johor
The Ocean Quest Marine Theme Park and Ocean Splash Water Park at the Desaru holiday resort are slated to be opened to the public in 2015 or 2016. It is an interactive marine park and focused on endangered species.
Ocean Splash will be an international quality water park and very different from any other existing water parks in Malaysia. The best comparison would be the Typhoon Lagoon in Orlando, Florida, in terms of theme and design.
